Dance Moves & Mystery Fruit: Joy In Letting Go
Each week, I log in to my Laughter Yoga class, kicking off the week with laughter and finishing with a burst of dancing before I move on to my to do list.
When I dance, I’m fully in my body. I move freely in the moment—no constraints, just open connection and sensation. No one is watching, and there’s no one to impress.
Dancing reminds me how light it feels to let go of expectations and simply enjoy the experience. And really, “dancing” doesn’t have to mean music or movement. It’s anytime you explore, experiment, or play without worrying about the outcome.
Take my garden, for example. I’m known to bring home Charlie Brown plants—scraggly, lonely ones that others have already passed by. This summer, it was a little eggplant seedling. I’d never grown one before, and honestly, I don’t much like eggplant—but it called to me. With no pressure or expectation, I figured I’d just enjoyed seeing what would happen.
The plant grew, it bloomed, and eventually bore fruit—but instead of deep purple, it gave bright yellow eggplants! Friends teased me, and I laughed along. The joy wasn’t in “success”—it was in the trying, the surprises, and letting go.
What if we…
Put on a song and move like no one’s watching.
Try one small thing today just for fun.
Notice how light it feels afterward.
Go ahead—dance a little, try something new, and see what surprises await!
