Step by Step, You’re Doing It
I began this as a note to someone I love going through a time of change. Somewhere along the way, it became a note to myself, too.
I’m proud of you. And you are not alone in this.
So many of us keep living our lives as they are, even when we know something isn’t quite right. We carry on, hoping something might shift on its own. Sometimes we need to do that. There are practical reasons to stay put for a while, or we need more time to rest and gather our strength.
But often we’re more afraid of the uncertainty ahead than we are of what we’re feeling now—no matter how uncomfortable it is. It can feel easier to hope something outside of us will change, than to take a step into the unknown.
And then there’s this moment—the one you’re in now—where something starts to shift inside you.
You stop waiting.
You start listening.
And even without all the answers, you begin to move.
I imagine it might feel like stepping onto a narrow, rocky trail, roots twisting underfoot, unsure if each foothold will hold. That’s okay. You keep moving anyway—one careful step at a time—and I see you doing it.
It takes courage to listen to that quiet voice in your heart and move toward what feels right, even if you’re not yet sure what that really looks like. To take charge of this part of your life even as fear tugs at you, and to trust yourself.
This may be hard to believe while emotions swirl through you, so I’m here to remind you: you are strong, you are brave and I trust you are doing the right thing for you.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. I’m here beside you—step by step, every moment of the way.
