The Heart of Service
Veterans Day holds special meaning for me as an Army mom. It’s a day filled with pride and gratitude — pride in my son, and heartfelt thanks for all who serve.
People often ask if I’m scared for his safety. Of course, I am — that’s part of being a mom. But I’ve learned that fear and love often travel side by side. Every parent knows that mix — wanting to keep your child safe while cheering them on as they step into their own calling.
Watching my son’s journey has shown me that courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s what happens when love and purpose are stronger than worry. That’s true for all of us, whether we serve in uniform or through the daily acts of care that connect us all.
Each act of giving carries quiet strength: the willingness to show up, even when the outcome isn’t certain — bravely, imperfectly, and with love.
Today, my heart is with everyone who’s ever laced up their boots — and the families who’ve learned to live with both pride and worry, or loss, in the same breath.
To all who’ve served, and all who’ve loved someone who does: thank you. Your courage gives us the gift of freedom — to write, to laugh, to follow our dreams, and to live each day in gratitude for those who made it possible.
These are freedoms never to be taken lightly.
