3 Funny Things You’ll Want to Try Too

Little laughs, big lift.

I’ve always tried to notice what I’m grateful for, but writing it down never held my interest for long. Still, whether on paper, to ourselves, or out loud, saying them really does make a difference.

Back when our kids lived at home, we’d share our “gratefuls” at the dinner table—a tradition we still keep when we get together. It’s amazing how easily it nudges my attention back to the good.

Now I’m adding a new twist for myself: finding three funny things each day. And honestly? It’s fun.

Here’s what made my list today:

  • A young man earnestly pushing a double baby stroller—completely empty.

  • Two chipmunks chasing each other in circles until they crashed into a furry pile.

  • A highway sign declaring Connecticut “the pizza capital of the U.S.”
(I’m a Chicago girl married to a NY guy. We love our pizza our way: deep-dish for Chicago, thin crust for New York—the best of each!)

I’m only a few weeks into this experiment, but already I can tell—these little sparks of humor shift my mood. They remind me that laughter and joy sneak in through tiny cracks if I’m paying attention. Writing them down turns them into a personal highlight reel of laughter I can flip through on more difficult days.

Since writing in a gratitude journal never really stuck, I’m trying a digital slideshow instead. Each funny moment gets a picture and a note. It’s not just about remembering the laughs—it’s about reliving how they made me feel: lighter, sillier, happier.

Give it a try: Spot three funny things a day. Write them down, snap a picture, record an audio or video—whatever works for you. And don’t just capture what you saw or heard—capture how it made you feel.

Collect the little laughs, and suddenly your whole day feels lighter.
